About Me
Caitlin McDonold
I started SciSavvy Tutoring as a way to share my knowledge and help students succeed in STEM fields. I enjoy working one-on-one with students, and particularly love to mentor students from groups that are underrepresented in STEM careers.
I graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a minor in Mathematics from Skidmore College. As an undergraduate, I was a peer tutor in biology and writing and also served as a laboratory teaching assistant for several biology courses. I also conducted independent research in the laboratory of Dr. Patricia Hilleren investigating the mechanisms of RNA splicing in yeast.
I then earned a PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular, and Cell Biology from Cornell University, working in the laboratory of Dr. Chris Fromme on protein trafficking to and from the Golgi complex in yeast. I was active during my graduate studies as a Teaching Assistant for both undergraduate biochemistry courses and advanced graduate-level molecular biology courses, and have mentored and trained students in the lab throughout my education. I also trained and guided high school students over the summer in completing short research projects.
After finishing my PhD, I then worked for several years at prominent pharmaceutical companies before deciding to start SciSavvy Tutoring, where I have been helping students from middle school through to adult learners to succeed in mathematics and science.
